he treated it every day and the vets also gave her piiecnlen. She has also been on steroids for something. She is on nothing right now. Then as I was working on her they said a while ago, a year or more, she cast herself in a stall and got her neck stuck. AHAâ¦. She never bends to the right at all. You could see the bow in her neck to the right. So I just started by placing my hand gently on her neck at the deepest part of the bow, C3 C4 and just asked her to try and she did try. Lots of closed eye blinks and licking and chewing. After gently waiting and asking she gave me a little more then I gently and slowly moved up and down each vertebrae and she finally flexed to the right better than she ever has, the owner said. I then went to the O/A and tried working that very gently and yes, she is very tight, so I just gently moved the joint with her head in my arm, up and down and side to side. Because she was so tight I did the mouth work. She could barely open her mouth and by the time I was done she was opening very wide and released her tongue. The owner and trainer said that's the most she has opened her mouth. Then I went back to the O/A and got a little more movement up. Then I did the scapula release, C7 and withers work. She was obviously quite tight and her C7 was obviously rotated. I didn't not ask for 100% release as I didn't want to take away all of her compensatory protection in fear of her falling down. At this time I went to the sacrum worked the tail and hip and stifle points, then did the tail pull and then asked for dorsal arches. They were hard but she did them and stayed on all four feet. By the time I rocked her she was quite relaxed and moving down to the nose. She was standing up on all four feet square. I went to the withers and wiggled and rocked them and she liked that. Lotâs of licking and chewing. Then I went back to the O/A and neck flexion and got more flexion to the right and more range in the A/O.When I completed what I felt was enough bodywork for her for the first session, I watched her walk and suggested that they start leading her from the right and make her go more to the right to start training her brain that way. I showed them the neck stretches with her treats and did them with her and she did pretty well for the first time. She has a hard time stretching down and forward and up to the left and right but I think if they go SLOW enough and do them each day, that she will get better range. We put some tape on her Sacrum and low back and just walked her to the right and then switched to left and then to the right again. I also suggested to walk her in straight lines instead of small circles. Walk straight then wide turn to right then straight then wide turn to left etc.. I also told them to slowly ask her to back up a few steps and just mix it up. Of course all this is in-hand on a lead rope. They said she looked better. We will see. If she does improve then I think most of her issues have to do with the casting. She probably really hurt her neck and A/O and it was not addressed. I think she has major muscle memory going on tooThe next thing the vets are going to do is take X-Rays of her neck. The main issue here is that we are all concerned that she may not make the bd hour haul to the clinic without falling down. Hopefully we can get her stronger before this takes place. .I'm anxious to see how she comes along. I told them the next time I want to body wrap her. I just didn't want to over do anything with her the first time. I will keep you posted. Is there anything else you can think of that we should be doing? Or any other ideas what could be going on?Thanks,Terry |
